VINYL SUNDAY - RECORD STORE DAY PICKUPS (L to R):
The Receiving End of Sirens- Songs//2003 (2012, PHOTO FINISH RECORDS) (Clear Orange/500) (Record Store Day Exclusive)
Boysetsfire- Live for Today (2002, EQUAL VISION RECORDS) (White/250)
Pink Floyd- When the Tigers Broke Free / Bring the Boys Back Home (1982, COLUMBIA RECORDS)
The Band- Cahoots (1971, CAPITOL RECORDS) (in memory of Levon Helm)
The Smiths- The Queen Is Dead (1986, SIRE/ROUGHTRADE RECORDS) (original US pressing)
Picked up some pretty awesome stuff. I wish I had gotten my hand on some more of the Record Store Day exclusive stuff, like the Childish Gambino “Heartbreak” Single or Sigur Ros’ “Hvarf-Heim” but I was too excited by finding an original US pressing of “The Queen is Dead.” I had Ralph Stanley’s RSD Exclusive in my hand, but hadn’t realized it was a 78 (which I can’t play on my turntable, and I’m not one of those collectors who buys records and doesn’t own a record player/hangs records on their wall instead of playing the music) and it was also $18.99 for a 2-song single. No thanks. Same goes for Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.’s “We Almost Lost Detroit” RSD exclusive EP, which I also had in my hand but in the end put back because of it’s $18.99 price tag.
Also, I discovered two pretty nice little record stores in Asbury Park that I had never been to. I would have spent all day in them, but I ended up leaving early to hit up The Record Store in Howell because I figured they would have more of the RSD exclusives, which they did, and had I gone there first I probably would have gotten my hands on some more stuff.
