I woke up at 7:30AM. I have been waiting for the drums I bought on eBay to be delivered, so I checked on their delivery status while still half asleep.
“OUT FOR DELIVERY IN PHILADELPHIA, PA”
Well that would be great, except I don’t live in Philadelphia anymore, and have confirmation e-mails from both eBay and PayPal that my shipping address was confirmed as my house in New Jersey.
Panic. What if whoever lives at my old house sees these giant packages and decides they want them. What if UPS just leaves them at the front door.
So I call UPS and tell them don’t deliver it to that address. They say too bad, it’s already on the truck, only the shipper can call and change the delivery address. Otherwise the driver has to make an attempt to deliver it and then I can possibly pick it up at the warehouse.
Email the seller. Then realize he’s an old guy who probably doesn’t ever check his HOTMAIL account.
Google the guy’s name. Find 2 matches in Florida. Took a chance and called the first number. It’s the right guy. Explain the situation and my confusion as to how he even got that Philadelphia address. He goes to the UPS and vows to call back.
While waiting for the return phone call, I call eBay and talk to customer service. She verifies that I chose the correct shipping address. Trying to ask for a partial refund from this guy, especially if I have to go to Philadelphia to pick it up on top of the $70 I already spent on shipping.
Seller calls back. They can’t redirect it to New Jersey for whatever reason. They will hold it at the UPS warehouse in Philadelphia, but I can’t pick it up until tomorrow as the package is on the truck and the driver won’t be back to the warehouse until late tonight. I am impatient. I’ve been waiting for this forever it seems.
He was nice though, even gave advice on the upkeep and tuning of the drums. I almost feel guilty that I’m going to give him negative feedback on eBay unless he gives me a partial shipping refund. After all, eBay says it was his fault. We’ll see.
